Got Questions? I’ve Got Answers!

Whether you're curious about how my masks are made, how to care for them, or what to expect when ordering, you’re in the right place! Below, you'll find answers to common questions about delivery, returns, mask suitability, and more. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to get in touch—I’m always happy to help.

  • Are your masks for wearing or display?
Both! My masks are designed for both wearing and display. They are lightweight and comfortable enough to be worn for events, performances, or role-play. Each mask also comes with a unique mounting pad that contains the eyes, allowing it to be displayed in a life-like way when not in use. A hanging loop at the top makes wall display easy, turning your mask into a striking piece of artwork.
  • Are your masks suitable for children?
Unfortunately, the handmade masks are not classified as toys and are therefore not suitable for unsupervised play by children under the age of 14.
  • How do I look after my mask?
Your mask is made from natural wool fibres and requires gentle handling to ensure it's longevity. Keep Dry: Avoid exposure to rain or moisture. If it does get wet, gently blot with a towel and let it dry naturally on the mounting pad. Do not rub the fibres. Storage: Always store your mask on the mounting pad to help it maintain its shape. Moth Protection: Wool is a natural fibre, so be mindful of moths. Store in a dry, protected space and check periodically for signs of infestation. Pet Safety: Keep away from pets, as they may be tempted to chew or play with it. Fire Safety: Wool is naturally flame-resistant but should still be kept away from open flames. Please note: These masks are not toys and are unsuitable for children under 14. They are also not recommended for individuals with allergies to wool, lanolin, or other natural fibres.
  • How do you make your masks?
Each mask is hand-crafted using the traditional art of needle felting. I start with natural wool fibres, creating logs of wool and sculpting them with barbed felting needles to build up form and texture. For more detail, take a look at my blog post showing how I made my March Hare mask, you'll find it here: https://www.valerianfibres.com/post/the-making-of-the-march-hare
  • Where do you source your materials?
Much of the wool I use for the core layers is obtained from a local small-holder and washed and processed by me.
  • Are your masks suitable for live action role-playing or cosplay?
My masks are popular among LARP and cosplay enthusiasts. While they provide good visibility, they do slightly impede vision, so please take extra care in combat situations, low-light settings, or high-energy activities. These masks are designed for set-piece role-play rather than intense physical action. Outdoor Use: The mask is lightweight but can feel warm in hot weather. Safety First: Always use your mask responsibly - Valerian Fibres is not liable for accidents or injuries resulting from use in LARP or cosplay activities.
